The Wikidata Brand Verification Playbook & Live Demo Guide
An exclusive resource for students of Arun's AI GEO Course.
This resource provides the exact steps to create a verifiable entity entry, establishing your business's "Birth Certificate" in the AI ecosystem.
Part 1: The Live Demo Structure
Case Study: Aquarium Co-Op (A real-world example of a brand with strong entity signals)
Step 1: Creating the Item (2 Minutes)
- Navigate to Wikidata.org.
- In the top right, select "Create a new item".
- Enter the following details:
- Label (en): Aquarium Co-Op.
- Description (en): American freshwater aquarium supply store and YouTube channel.
- Aliases: Aquarium CoOp.
- Click "Publish" and note your unique Q-number (e.g., Q131313131).
Step 2: Core Statements & GEO Rationale
Use this table to add "Statements" (facts) to your item. Every statement, except your official website, must include a Reference to an independent third-party source.
| Property (code) | What to Add | Example Value | Rationale / Why it matters for GEO | Reference Tip (click the little book icon) | Note |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1instance of (P31) | business + YouTube channel | business (Q4830453) + YouTube channel (Q25070669) | Core classification – tells AI what kind of entity this is | HeraldNet article + Coral Magazine | AI uses this to decide which rich results to show |
| 2inception (P571) | founding date | +2013-03-01 | Proves the brand has history | HeraldNet (2017) + Coral Magazine | Timeline data → better AI Overviews |
| 3founded by (P112) | founder | Cory McElroy (Qxxxx or create if missing) | Links human → brand (huge for entity graph) | HeraldNet + Coral Magazine | Personal Knowledge Panel for Cory becomes easier |

| 5located in (P131/P276) | city + exact address | Edmonds (Q983225) + 9661 Firdale Ave, Edmonds, WA | Precise location | Yelp + ZoomInfo | Triggers Google Maps card & local AI answers |
| 6official website (P856) | main URL | https://www.aquariumcoop.com | Direct traffic source – AI loves this | website itself (no ref needed) | "Visit website" button in AI results |
| 7industry (P452) | aquarium retail | aquarium (Q1512740) + pet store (Q2072073) | Categorization for niche queries | Coral Magazine + Yelp | Better ranking in "best planted tank stores" etc. |
| 8product (P1056) | flagship products | sponge filter + Easy Green fertilizer | Shows what the brand actually sells | Coral Magazine (brand spotlight) + official store | Product carousels in Google Shopping & AI |
| 9YouTube channel ID (P2397) | channel handle | UC0afk3a1I5GLEcZ9UMO5e5Q | Links the 1M+ sub channel | YouTube about page | YouTube rich snippets + video packs |
| 10review score (P444) | Yelp rating | 4.5/5 | Social proof | Yelp page (205 reviews) | Star rating appears in Google local results |
| 11Facebook page (P4003) | official FB | AquariumCoOp | Social proof & engagement | Facebook page itself | AI sometimes shows follower count |
Step 3 – Sitelinks & Extras (2 minutes)
- Image (P18) → upload a free-licensed store photo to Wikimedia Commons first
- EverybodyWiki (if it exists) → add as sitelink (not Wikipedia yet, but shows students the path)
- Later: when a real Wikipedia article is created → it will auto-link
Step 4 – Publish & Review (1 minute)
- Click big blue "Publish"
- Show students the live item → refresh in 30 seconds
- Run a quick Google search "Aquarium Co-Op site:wikidata.org" → it now appears
- Explain: "Within hours/days this feeds into Google's Knowledge Graph → better AI answers"
Part 2: Learners Exercise – Build Your Entity
Don't guess at your data. Use this Master Prompt in Gemini or Claude to gather your references before you start editing Wikidata.
The Wikidata Researcher Master Prompt
Just replace BRANDNAME with whatever you want (Nike, Gymshark, a local coffee shop, etc.)
Copy this prompt:
You are an expert Wikidata + GEO researcher. Help me create a complete, deletion-resistant Wikidata item for the brand "BRANDNAME". 1. First, search and list 5–8 independent third-party sources (news articles, local newspapers, trade publications, Yelp, ZoomInfo, industry blogs, etc.). Give live URLs and one-sentence why each is independent. 2. Confirm there is no existing Wikidata item for this exact brand (search Wikidata + Wikipedia). 3. Then output exactly this table format (ready to copy-paste into Wikidata): | Property | Value | Reference URL | Retrieval date | Do at least 10 rows covering: instance of, inception, founded by, country, headquarters location, official website, industry, product(s), review score, YouTube/Facebook if applicable. 4. Finally, give the exact Label, Description (en), and 2–3 Aliases I should use when creating the new item. Do the full research live — I will follow your table to create the item in class.
Part 3: Pro-Tips for Success
Warning
Verification is Non-Negotiable: If an editor flags your item, it's usually because of a lack of third-party sources. Your website does not count as an independent source.
Pro Tip
The Bridge: Once your Wikidata is live, ensure you link it in the sameAs property of your website's Organization Schema.
Note
Stay Patient: It can take 6-12 weeks for these signals to fully compound across AI engines.
