Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot and Windsurf
An exclusive resource for students of Arun's Claude Code Course.
You do not need to have used any of these. Open them when you want to see for yourself where each one sits.
Comparing them directly is like asking whether a hammer is better than a screwdriver. The answer depends on whether you are driving a nail or turning a screw.
| Tool | What it is best at | Link |
|---|---|---|
| Claude Code | Work that spans multiple files and needs to happen autonomously. It reads your whole codebase, makes its own decisions about what to build, runs commands, and fixes its own errors | https://claude.ai/code |
| Cursor | Fast inline changes on a file you already have open. Highlight a block, ask for the change, and the edit lands right there | https://cursor.com |
| GitHub Copilot | Autocomplete inside the file you are typing in. The grey ghost text you accept with a tab and keep moving | https://github.com/features/copilot |
| Windsurf | Sitting between the editor experience and the autonomous agent, for the moments you want a little of each | https://windsurf.com |
The thing worth taking from this
The useful instinct is not picking a favourite. It is the quiet sense that tells you "this is a Copilot moment" or "this needs Claude Code", and that builds slowly, one project at a time.
You do not need to remember which one does what right now. By the end of this section the map sits in your head naturally, and the choices start to feel obvious from context rather than from memorisation.
See Where You Stand
This resource is one piece of a much bigger system.
Take the free Claude Code Readiness Quiz. It is 15 short situations, scored out of 100, and it tests how you handle a job rather than what you know about a tool, so you can take it without ever having opened Claude Code.
