The Opening Demo, Built in Ten Minutes

This is the exact prompt behind the app you watched get built. Five lines, in the words you would use talking to a person.

Build me a calorie tracker.
Use Google's Gemini to look at the food and count it.
Let me feed the pictures in by hand for now.
Plan the design before you build anything.

Read it to see how little structure a first instruction actually needs. Then notice the last line, which tells Claude to plan before it builds anything. That one line is doing more work than it looks like.

You do not need to run this yet. Nothing is installed at this point in the course. Keep it to look at, and come back to it later if you want to.

The app it was measured against

MyFitnessPal charges around eighty dollars a year, and its Meal Scan feature is the one you point your camera at a plate with.

Worth opening once, so the comparison means something to you. The point of the demo is not that the app is good or bad. The point is what a paid feature costs, set against what it took to build one.

What you did not see

The part on screen is the smaller half. By the time that prompt was typed, Claude already knew how the work should be done, because of everything that had been shaped around it beforehand. Somebody opening Claude Code tonight and typing the same words does not get the same result.
